theres a guy not far from me that has a mid America dual exhaust (below) off a '77 that I'm thinking of putting on my '79...I'm assuming it should fit...am i correct? And what might i need to know(tips) before attempting this swap......thanks
Yes, they will fit, provided your exhaust manifolds are the same as his. They should be, but I would look first. These can be adapted to headers. The only concern you have now is emission testing. '79s came with a cat, so if anyone looks, you will fail. If emmisson checks are not an issue then go for it. Don't pay very much, a new set of pipes from a catalog is only about $300 & a muffler shop will probably build you a custom set for around this price. You will want a heat shield for the pipes that will divert the heat from the floor pan.

Yes it's the stock manifold....an L82 ........no headers.....hmmm should i get headers too? .....damn everything I touch takes me down the money trail...was going to keep the stock manifold on..emmisions is NP antique plates so no inspection....Thanks for the help guys.........
I believe your crossmember is designed to allow a single catylitic converter on the passenger side,as my 80 was.(The converter and pipes run under the crossmember) The set up you show looks like for somethng older with the through holes in the crossmember, and would not fit.
Also if you're from Pa.,the visual inspection of factory emmission control devices would fal that exhaust.I had a custom 3" setup made the please the state. It maintained the stock location of the converter(a 3" hp unit) and freed up some breathing due to the pipe size.About a year later the converter plugged and I took a six foot digging iron to it,so now it looks like it used to,but is hollow.

The 79 crossmember was the last year (I think) that was set up for a dual exhaust even though the 79 didn't have a dual. So, you'll not have a problem running a dual exhaust. I'm running MAD's chambered dual exhaust on my 79 but specificially ordered it for my year.
I just rebuilt my engine, and this exhaust looks to be the same as mine.. i had to cut mine up a little to fit the hooker headers but from what i can see the bends look the same
Thanks all......i have the car registered as an antique so I don't have to have it inspected .......consiquently it's not an issue...i'll check the cross member to see if it has 2 holes ....I think it does......
