Hi I just replaced a small heater hose on my 1981 vette and I though all was going fine.
I don’t know why but I now smell a burning rubber type of smell from the area behind the AC compressor. A friend suggested to me that it may be my alternator belt it looked a bit messed up so changed drive the car for a short time but the smell is still there. I have checked the wheel area to see if anything is rubbing on the wheel but there seems to be no indication of this at all. I can’t see anything burning at all and I can’t pin point the location of the smell.
I have no idea where the smell is coming from as far as I can tell it’s somewhere behind the AC and near the area where the fan is. It seams to be the most strong coming from the area just between the fan (for the AC into the cabin) and the radiator overflow bottle.
Fan belts! Mine like to burn up and even jump off if I get on it. Supposedly the old V-belts are known for this. Check belt tension and make sure that all pulleys are aligned.
Good Luck!
you got something not inline, draggin, somethings going on ,,,mine dont jump off,,what if you took a dry line and seen if there lined up or maby there is a dent in a pully throwing the belt/ just a suggestion
I have checked the exhaust and there’s nothing touching that I can see would burn. I’ve also checked the belts and they seem ok as well. When I stop the car and wait a little while for some of the smell to leave it seems to smell the most just near where the fan for the AC is mounted. I cant see anything wrong there at all could it be the fan??
