Default Crate Engine + 5 Speed

First post.

Have a 1969 Convertible, 350, 4 speed. 3.70 posi.

Getting ready to do some upgrade work to the car including a crate and a overdrive 5 speed.

Where is the best place to land a great crate engine?
Opinions on the Keisler 5 speed perfect fit kit?

Want to build a good performer that is more driveable than the current set-up. It's a great driving car - no power steering or brakes, all new suspension. Fun now, want more fun.

Pace, Sallee, Scoggins, Summit, and there are other sources for crate engines

For 5 speeds... Keisler is a forum supporting vendor. If you want other sources,do a search.

I have the Keisler 5 speed in mine. I highly recomend it. The 5 speed changed the whole car. It is now a pleasure to drive on the highway. I have 3.70 gears.

Crate engines, there are many

Look into GM crate engines too. Good warranty and many choices of HP

I think it's only fitting to mention Marshall engines after the way they handled the situation with MSV.

i agree with all the above. a recent thread dealt with a marshall engine that went sour very shortly after installation. Marshall Engines made it right with the forum member. they are a take charge type of company!

As far as a motor I would reccomend either GM or Jasper. I went with a Jasper stage II. I am very happy.

You might want to ask some hard questions about the GM warrantee. I asked my local Chevy parts manager and the service manager about the crate warrantees. From what I understand if you get any of the higher horsepower engines, there is less of a warrantee than with the standard replacement crate engine.

I've heard good things about Jon Barrett crate engines and how he stands behind his engines.

It depends on what horsepower, warranties, etc.

If you want a good 'ol reliable engine, GM sells many of them with varying prices and horsepowers. The GM Goodwrench engine (250 hp and 350 tq) has a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty. If you upgrade to that, you get into the GM Performance Parts engines that have a 1 year/12,000 mile warranty. You can get these engines from crateenginedepot.com, paceparts.com, summitracing.com, jegs.com or your GM dealer. So far, I found that Summit and Jeg's have the best prices on the Goodwrench engine.

As mentioned above, Blueprint sells a bargain of an engine at about $2,500 for nearly 400 hp/tq.

If you want LOTS of power, you can get a World Products engine, but it = $$$$$$.

Do some research, there are lots of them out there. I am sure that you will find the one that is right for you.
