Default Differential bolt size

On a 79 stock rear end - I've tried just about every size socket I have in the box and can't seem to find one that fits the fill bolt on the differential. I can't get a wrench up there to turn the thing unless I take off the spare tire cover. Not wanting to open up yet another can of worms (like when I tried to replace the emergency brake hardware), I'd rather use a socket and a few extensions to take the bolt out. Any ideas on what socket might fit it? Thanks.

I believe it is a 5/8". But the plug is square not hex. You'll need a 5/8" 8 pt socket to fit it.

I checked my differential fluid this Sunday and ended up using an open-end wrench. Don't remember which size, possibly 5/8" or 3/4". I had to keep flipping the wrench since not much room to work with.

Thanks for the replies. Will drop the tire and hope I don't break anything else along the way. Off to Sears.
