Default thinking about getting new heads/cam

I've decided that most of my summers pay is going to my car (surprise surprise). I'm trying to decide between wheels and tires or trying to squeeze out some more hp...but to the point..I have hooker 1-7/8 headers on it now and I'm debating putting new heads and cam. I'm not looking to spend too too much, but I'm willing to go about 2k maybe more if its that much better. What would you suggest? I've also noticed that the only headers summit racing sells now is the 2-1/8 in when I bought mine they were suggested to me to keep the low end torque. Are my headers right for me or do I need the larger ones? Its a 71 454...but I think the engine is from a 73..don't have the numbers with me. Any help is great!

Steven

http://www.users.interport.net/s/r/srweiss/tablehdc.htm This link has some great info on heads. Don,t go with too big of runners. Common mistake. It can lower your low end and midrange torque. AFR are the best in my opinion. Comp Cams or Crane has a great help line to help select a cam profile if you know your actual compression ratio.

That looks very appitizing...its hinting at me being able to reach around 410 hp..anyone actually used this? What can I realistically expect? Would those heads match up to my headers even if they're rectangle port? My headers are hooker part number 2123-1HKR if that helps. Only problem I can see with that setup is the intake. I know that won't fit under the stock BB hood...would it fit if i were to upgrade to the l88 hood?

Edit: When I went back and looked at that more...its for a small block...I have a 454 thanks for trying though
