Default 1979 tire sizes

What are the largest tires I can put on a stock 1979?
Iwant to replace the original 225 70 15s
Will 255 60 15 fit?

255 /60R15 were an option in 1978-1982. So yes, they will fit but I think you will have to do a little inner fender trim on the front.

I'm running 255X60X15 on my 79 without any issues or changes. I have no rubbing or turn problems on stock GM rims

If Your 79 was originally equipped with 255/60s the fender will already have been trimmed at the factory. If it came originally with
225/70s You will probably have to remove a small amount of glass
from the inside of the bottom lip of fender.

Same here 255/60/15's on all four corners. Slight rubbing at full lock, but my car was also lowered a bit.

YES they fit but vetteman is right the bigger tire may eat the front inner side of your fender. Just because the 255/60/15 fit on 9 out of 10 vette's you may have that 10th vette. like me. I traded the 255/60's up front for a set of 245/60/15 fit without the rub. The 255/60's are on the rear fit w/no problem. Take your vette to a good tire shop & have them mount the 255/60's first and try them on the front if they rub install them on the rear & try the 245/60's on the front.

I'd post a pic of the back/side of my '79 with 265/50/15s, but I don't know how to post photos:bb
