Default 78 Power Window Help

I have pulled the drivers side door panel off along with the inspection panel off. I would like some step by step help in removing the regulator. If there are any previous threads that explained this or which manual has the best explanation would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

This is from memory. Unbolt the window from the upper track, I took my window out but you can leave it in. Then unbolt the vertical tracks from the top and bottom of the door and remove them, the upper part of the tracks have stops that need to be unbolted to remove the tracks. unbolt the motor from the side of the door. The motor and the regulator will come out thru the bottom large hole in the door. You will need to lowere the regulator to get it out. This is as close to the way it comes out as I can remember. Hope it helps.

Careful here. That door glass is six times heavier than it ought to be. If you leave it in, put something under it to ensure it does not come down until you want it to. That thing is heavy enough to chop off a finger or two on the sharp edges of that inner door panel.

Also there is a Coil spring on the regulator that needs to be kept in place with a Bolt run through it before you go messing with removing the regulator or the motor!!!!!!!!!!! Otherwise it will snap free and do all sorts of nasty things inside the door!.

Lots on it here. Try a search. Its easy to do. i've had mine out several times. Undo the bolts in the upper part of the track that holds the regulator to the window. Once you have freed the window..wedge something between the window and door frame to keep it in the up position. If your is original and never removed its held in place with I believe 5 rivits (3 near the motor and 2 hold the upper part of the regulator in place). You need to drill out the rivits. You need to buy bolts the exact size of those rivit holes and just long enough to get a lock nut on for you reinstall. Once you have the regulator free use the power to collapse the regulator...play around...you'll get it to the right spot...it will come out throught the access panel and go back in the same way.

Don't worry about the spring so long as you leave the motor on the regulator it will hold it in place. if you are removing the motor different story...you need to bolt the regulator together...but you then will not be able to use the power to compress it just right so it comes out through the access hole.

this may help... http://home.comcast.net/~chadwick.ro...or_rebuild.htm

I like to thank everybody for thier info. I went home last night and looked at the regulator. after reading what Jim had sent I looked and mine was only attached with 2 rivots. I could see where the third rivet would go so pulled the window up to full open and noticed that the regulator also moved. After a little persuasion I got the third hole to line up and put a short bolt through it and whala it works . Thanks again.
