I just installed Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads and Dynomax (black) headers and when I started the vehicle and after several seconds, smoke is coming out from the headers along the exhaust holes and gasket area on both sides of the engine. The header bolts with the kit are just over a inch long and the bolts are snug. Do I need a thicker header gasket? I am aware the exhaust openings on the cylinder heads are square, but not sure of the header openings for Dynomax headers (might be round) could it be that I have the wrong header gasket (Edelbrock recommends Fel-pro #1406 for header gaskets which I did purchase and install) Thanx.
I'm not really sure on the head exhaust ports and header specs but make sure the smoke is the actual exhaust leaking from around the gasket and not some extra gasket sealant that might have dripped on the header or head and is being burned off when you run the engine.
This causes smoke to rise from around the headers and heads but should stop once the engine runs for a bit. If thats not the problem and you do have a leak then hopefully someone will chime in on here or you should call the header company and tell them what kind of heads you have and if the headers you purchased will fit and what kind of gasket is recommeneded. Good luck
