Default Do you guys have Alarm Systems installed?

I installed an alarm system in my 70BB right when I got it. I've been draining batteries like crazy. I thought part of it was because I didn't drop the big bucks on an Optima battery, but recently I got one and even that got killed. Jack at McJack's was saying that he takes out more alarm systems than he can count and that they always drain systems in the older corvettes. So it's looking like I might be taking mine out soon. But I was curious, does anyone else have alarm systems installed that haven't drained their batteries like this, and if you don't have an alarm systems, how do you protect your vettes? (LoJack, something else?)

A kill switch on the ignition circuit with a hidden switch. Simple and very effective if you are creative with the switch. Nobody cares about alarms.

I install GPS tracking units - I have put them in all my vehicles; 80 vette, suburban, and others. We also have put them into bobcats, and motorcycles. they have never drained my batteries down unless left on for 45 or more days w/o starting the vehicle. neat thing is if you kids decide to joy ride the C3 when your out of town - you can find out and shut it down right then.

It also gets a discount on insurance because of the unit can track and shut the veh down

you can track anywhere if you can get on the net. they run aproxx $650. the monthly cost for the service is approx $15.00

If i get enough people together wanting them I can get forum members a better discount

we put them in rental units (cars, trucks, bobcats)

all you need to do is hook it to a 24/7 power source, screw in the ant.(gps, and radio) mount unit inside the veh. great thing about fiberglass is it doesnt affect the signal

The battery cut off switch works well and somebody installed an isolator switch to the distributor to my car which is virtually undetectable. Aussie car thieves aren't that smart. Like the idea of the revolver though, our laws here are too strict!!!

I looked at the "S&W 357" - but I prefer a MP5SD

I like the feature of being able to shut the vehicle's electrical/ motor off as the police pull in behind the jerk stole it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Think I'll just go with a basic cutoff and figure out where to put the switch.

You're right about how people don't care about alarms. I only got this system for the ignition cutoff and the blinking light that tells people its armed.

My '81 has an alarm stock.

Open the doors w/o unlocking it correctly and the horn blasts and the ignition is disabled. The hardest part most people encounter is just opening the doors

The driver's side door has to be unlocked, leave the key in still turned, then open it. If you unlock it then pull the key out, the alarm goes off. Simple but effective.

Alarm!! Good God no! The single most descriptive word relating to alarm systems is "Worthless". Especially the aftermarket kind that are set so damned sensitive that an errant bird turd hitting the car sets it off...

Cars like that are more likely to be vandalised than stolen....

Nobody pays any attention to alarms...so unless you are in a position to hear it 24/7 then I wouldnt waste your money. Hells I cant even count how many times I've seen towtrucks rolling down the road with alarms blaring...

Car alarms go off in my neighborhood about every hour or two...its background noise except for those few who are so sick of it they go out and beat on the darned thing to get it to shut up.

I have no faith in alarms -
