Default Which methods to drain gas tank?

I need to drain some 2 year-old gas from my 1980. What is the easiest yet safest way to do this? I have one of hose pump motors you attach to a drill, but I'm sure that is a no-no due to possible fire. What does anyone recommend? Thank you!

I went to the auto parts store and got a siphoner that you pump by hand to get it started. Once the fuel starts flowing, physics takes over and the fuel just drains on its own. Also comes in handy when the washing machine breaks and the tub is full of water.
