Pulling The Motor On A 1978 L48 Replacing The Heads, Cam, Exhaust And Upgrading The Ignition. Does This Combo Seem Like A Good Idea
Edelbrock Heads-edl60979
Hedman Headers-hed68306
Comp Cams-12-211-2
Msd Ignition-6200 And 8412
Looking For Around 300-350hp, Just A Strong Sunday Driver. Any Other Suggestions From The Vette Gods And Experts Would Be Appreciated. Will The Stock Intake And Quadrajet Be Sufficient.
Thanks In Advance.

I would include an aluminum intake with the Qjet. Or go with the Edlebrook performer intake and carb combo. Just my opinion for what you want out of your car.

I have a 78. I pulled my old engine and put in a GM Crate engine, 290 horse which runs on regular. Edelbrock carb and intake manifold and Dynamaxheaders with real duels. It does the trick.

I am trying to replace my seatbelts on my 78 corvette. I can't get the bolts to budge. I used WD40 and have bent more sockets than I care to count. I know about heat but the fuel lines run right by the bolts. Any suggestions.

Stock intake will NOT fit that head ... eb 60979 is an E-tec head & has a VORTEC-style intake flange.
Suggest eb 60899 heads (64cc straight plug rpm), eb 2101 (performer intake), YOUR freshened qjet carb, the CC magnum 270H (12-211-2) is oK. Forget the MSD stuff ... you don't need it ... simply freshen YOUR existing HEI dist ... DO read & heed LARS ignition papers on correct springs & vac can.

For 300-350 on the cheap go with used alum vette heads, summit 214/224 cam, alum intake and your old carb and ign. Use the $ saved to get dynomax coated headers

For 300-350hp I'd also be looking at a good set of 1.94 or 2.02 camel humps

This thread is about motors. not seatbelts. If you have a Q regarding seatbelt removal, please start a seperate thread.

Im on the same with you , I have a 78 with a l48
this is my idea to get around 300-350 hp
Heads, headers, intake, carb, cam.
Sportsman 2 heads. Or the alum. Trick flow 23 degrees ones with 64 cc
Lunati Vodoo cam 221/229 468"/489"
Super comp plus headers/sidepipes
Performer rpm/ or a airgap
Orig qjet or a edlebrock avs.
Later on when i have extra money the wieland 142 blower.
Then a 3.90 rear end of corse , and a b n m shift kit.
