The L-48 is now safe on the shop floor, and my 470 horse Big Block is about ready to claim its new home! Space is going to be somewhat important and I want to remove the remaining pieces of the a/c system. My goal is to completely remove the evaporator and the huge fiberglass plenum cover. For now I may just build a nice cover for the hole and later I might install a basic heater core in that space.
My question is with the engine out, can this process be done from the engine bay? I really don't want bubba tuggin on my dash-board, but i really do need the space under the hood.
My plan may require the addition of a vacuum canister and this might be the area for it. The cam I'm using is gonna make my brake system interesting, so I'm in the midst of a project now!
Thanks for the advice if you can lead me along here!
you can remove the evap core box from under the hood and the firewall will be flush except for the heater core pipes. you have to remove the rest from inside the car. don't let bubba work on your car you can do it easily
So does that mean I can just fabricate a new cover after I remove the evaporator and be able to use the existing heater core. Then could I just add new hoses and be done with it?
here is a few pics of the block off plate I made to cover the factory A/C case hole. if I go back with A/C it will be a unit from classic auto air. its a convertible and the A/C would not work with the top down anyway. wich is how I intend to drive it 90% of the time.
