Default Tranny Cross-member conversion

I believe it's cross-member #2. Rear-end of tranny. I see several threads mentioning people swapping out a welded cross-member with a bolt-on. Are there any suppliers of kits for this or does anyone have a thread to this topic already done? I have an auto with the welded and I thought since I'm going to be swapping the tranny very soon this would be a good time to convert to a bolt-on.
TIA.

Mine was an auto and it had a bolt in cross member. I thought all autos had the bolt in one but I could be wrong. A lot of guys cut the weld-in crossmember about 10 inches on each side of the center section, weld tabs on all 4 ends with bolt holes in the tabs and create a bolt-in cross member that way.

The autos do have a bolt on. Mine was an original 4-speed.

Does anyone have some pics of a bolt-on conversion?

Does anyone know if the tail-shaft on a TH400 can be remove in order to make the removal and installation easier? I think it will be close to missing the crossmember altogether if I can take the tail-shaft off. Obviously no fluid in tranny.

Zwede did a very nice job, typical of all his projects. A suggestion I would offer that worked very well for my conversion was to cut a length of pipe that would span the inside of the cross member. I tac welded in place.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ht=crossmember

The bolt goes through this pipe, the pipe allows the bolt to be torqued very tight. Without the pipe, the bolt will squash the rather soft metal the box frame is made of.

Marck while that is a great job on the crossmember it still passes the exhuast through the crossmember.
This is not a good idea. Haveing worked on corvette forever I know that taking an exhuast apart almost yearly to work on it is no fun.
Pass the exhuast under the crossmember. Undo the header flange , the hangers on the back and front of the muffler and lowering it complete to the floor is a much better idea.

Wow those are two very nice solutions. Both above my welding ability...

Well actually I think I can handle the Zwede idea...
