Default 68-72 Corvette Wiper Door/Windshield Question

I've made many post on this and have not got a answer, Has anyone ever replaced a windshield in a 68-72 Corvette with out removing the wiper door panel? I have the old one out and area prepared for install. The fender trim and wiper door trim has been removed and it look like with the door open it may fit. The reason I would not like to remove the wiper door is because of the chance of breaking the tiny hinge botls. I would like some input from you guys on this, Thanks AL.

Default windshield

Glad you asked that. I was working on the wiperdoor on mine this weekend and ended up cracking the windshield. Did you have to replace the window trim or were you able to remove it without damaging it? Not sure on yours, but on my 69 wiper door, the holes for the 4 mounting bolts went all of the way thru. You can put some PB Blaster on them from the outside. They are 1/4 x 3/8 shoulder bolts with 10-24 threads. Soak them good and if you do need to get the door off they should come out. Good luck

Take your time on these bolts. I had to drill out 3 of the 4 bolts on my '69, then fill and retap them all. No fun.

Interesting that the holes on your '69 went clear through. Mine were solid on the end with no way to get at them from the backside.

Yes, I was able to remove the trim with out a problem and still the clips are in great shape. Sorry to hear about your windshield, did something hit the edge wile you were working on it? I have all the trim off even the wiper door and fender trim. I'm just cunserned about making another problem, AL.

Mine hole go all the way though on my 68. As far as the drill and tap thing that would be a real problem because the bolts are much harder metal the the door it self and the drill will want to walk to the softer metal, AL.

It broke because of something that I did. I had adjusted the wiper door too far to the rear and the rear mounting boss was touching the windshield. I thought the stop was set properly and I pushed on the corner of the wiper door and the pressure caused the windshield to crack. I am having a new one installed on thursday by the same people that Rogers Corvettes use here in Orlando. I talked to the mechanic today that will do the work amd he said that the job can be done by opening the wiper door. Since I have new pillar post seals he said all should be OK.

You wrote ...It broke because of something that I did. I had adjusted the wiper door too far to the rear and the rear mounting boss was touching the windshield.

I'm trying to figure what you did hear. You say mounting boss, unless I have some parts missing nothing goes near the glass but the door and trim it self. Are you sure you don't have a 73-82 windshield in you car. The 68-72 use a different windshield then the 73-82, AL.

Your find the bottom middle of a 68-72 has a fang hanging and the 73-82 have a more even drape at the bottom. Let me know what you have and I see if I can find a 68-72 windshield picture, AL.

Did you watch them remove your glass? Did they have much trouble getting passed the wiper door? AL.
