I'm debating putting new heads/cam on the BB. I've been trying to do a little HW but I'm confused. Right now my engine has 73 heads on it....353049.....73-84...oval...OPEN...454, 122cc chamber, 255/119cc ports. I can't really seem to get any good suggestions on what to put in there so I was looking a little at the edelbrock performer rpm heads...http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku.
When I look at the numbers on them though it seems that the intake runner volume is higher, but the exhaust runner volume is lower. How can these be an improvement if they don't flow as much on the exhaust side? I'm sure theres something I'm missing. If anyone can suggest a good heads/cam set I'm all ears cause I really have no clue what I want. All I know is its going on a 71 BB with 73 heads on it and I want a kick *** street motor. I'm not looking for an all out dragster but I don't mind a little bit of a loppy idle and I want it to act like the 454 it is. Also if theres any suggestion on carb size I would need to go with it that'd be great. I'm thinking of going double pumper. Thanks a lot.

If I were you I would stick with those 049 heads. They are one of the best flowing of the big block heads along with the 781 castings.A little port work and the larger valves and these heads are easily in the 550 hp. range. One of the best street heads in my opinion for the big block.
Brodix makes a great street head called the race rite, the exhaust ports are in the stock location so header fit wont be a problem. These heads can make a ton of power and are priced very well. For more information go to the Team Chevelle web site and talk to Mike Lewis, he goes by Wolfplace on the forum. These guys know big blocks and how to get power. Go to the performance forum and search for Brodix Race Rites.
