I need to replace my tired distributor on my rebuild L48, rebuild was nothing too fancy, I guess around 250 hp, still need to dyno it...
I have been browsing the forum, using search, and can hardly find anything on the E-curve distributor from MSD. It looks like a good deal to me, no hassle with the box, no hassle with weights to tune, build in rev-limiter,...
I use one. First of all they are not cheap. Add on some good wires and coil and your well over $500.
They have 100 different combinations of settings. But only a few are really applicable to a any given motor build combination. I use it because the dial mechanical advance feature is nice. I only use 15 degrees mech adv.
I purchased one for the same basic reason, however I neglected to realize that I also need to purchase a coil and figure out how to wire it all into my Corvette. In the case of our cars, installing it isn't just as simple as plugging in 3 wires as the instructions indicate, but adjusting your advance definately seems a lot more user friendly than playing with weights.
My motor isn't assembled yet and I still need to get the chasis back on my frame so I haven't had a chance to figure out exactly how to wire it all up yet.
I got one for the new engine but not installed yet. Should offer excellent reliability with elimination of the weights. Jeg's seems to have the best price. The rev limiter is not a precise setting-i.e. can't set to 6250 or even 6200 so some trial & error & tach comparison will be required. Advance adjustments are apparently precise.
