Battery box repair

There was a thread on this a few months ago, but here's what I did to mine when I found the bottom just about gone.
I taped a piece of plastic across the bottom from underneath then "reinforced" it with a stiff piece of cardbaord underneath the taped plastic. Then I laid wet (resin impregnated) fibreglass mat onto the plastic and as far up the sides as needed. I built up a thickness of just under a quarter inch and when it had hardened, I just pulled the tape and plastic away from underneath.
While you're at it, you might care to insert into the glass on one side of the box a metal bracket that grabs the rails at the bottom of most new batteries. Opposite you could insert a metal plate with a nut welded to it so that you can securely clamp the battery once installed. I did this and I made a plate that clamps the battery and I screw it down with a very long bolt that comes to the top of the battery compartment so that I could unscrew it even with my eyes shut.
Good luck!
