I am new to the forum and have only owned my Corvette for about 3months. I have a very basic question. How can I determine if this car is an L-82? The previous owner just considered it "a car", and has no idea about anything on it or about it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
L82 was introduced in '73 and continued until '80. In the VIN the fifth digit will be a T for 73-75, X for 76-77, 4 for 78-79, and a 6 for 80, if it came from the factory with an L82. But this does not mean it is still the original engine in the car. Post the year and we can give you the codes to look for.
Sorry I left out some data on the car. The car is a 1981,350,th350 auto,ac,power everything. The car is original with 44k miles. I was never led to believe that it was a L-82. I only questioned it when I started looking through catalogs for repair parts and some of the replacement parts I saw mentioned that they were for L-82's(dual snorkel aircleaner, finned aluminum valve covers w/flag emblems,etc.).VIN # 1G1AY8768BS400264.
Thanks for all the help.
Mike,
The 81 only had one engine as stated above. It was the L81. (1981 for an L81 :D ). Check the engine stamp pad to see if it is the origianl engine. There is a machined surface on the block in front of the passanger side head. Should be two numbers stamped there. One should end with the last 5 numbers of the VIN. If so you should have the original engine.
