Hey guys i have a 74 stingray with a 350. I am noticing that the temp is over 200 approx 200-210 while under normal driving conditions in the summer. Does anyone know the correct temp for this engine to operate under?? I have replaced the thermostat with a 180.....The car only has 40k on it. Is there a chance the radiator could be stopped up ??? thanks alot

How are you reading your temps? Don't rely on the stock guage/sender...
I was having the same problem (and worse) with my '74....until I added a manual sender/guage (under the hood). The REAL temp was 185. Overheating problem solved!
That is cool for a C-3, I wish mine ran that cool. Mine pegs the gauge at highway speeds, needless to say, I try to stay off the highway until I can get it under control.

I have a hi-flo t-stat, hi-flo water pump, aluminum radiator, electric fan and chin spoiler is in place.
What exactly is manual sender/guage (under the hood) and where can I buy one?
Thanks
A manual sender is one that measures the temp with a probe and sends the signal "manually" up a pipe (usually covered with a metal winding) to the guage. An electric sender uses changes in resistance to send an electrical charge up a wire to the guage.
Manual water temp guages can be found just about anywhere...I bought a typical unit from AutoZone ($14?) and another type from Jeg's:

I have mine mounted in the WP, too. It runs a few degrees cooler than the other guage (mounted in the head). Same for you?
The guage inside does not work very well, but I checked it with a Thermometer Meter With Laser and its maybe 2-3 drgress cooler. Still very accurate IMO.
