Can anyone please tell me the purpose of the metal cover on the bottom of the intake manifold? I am changing my manifold for another one, but the one I am replacing had a metal cover rivited on the center bottom, whereas the new on I am going to install has the cover missing. Do I need to go to a machine shop and have the cover installed on the new on, or can I install it without the cover. They are both a 1968 327/350 manifold. Thanks for any help
I believe its function is to keep the hot oil in the lifter valley off of
the manifold area under the carb. I have never seen the cover on
any of the aluminum after market manifolds so I guess its OK to run
without it.
