Don't know which are best but Hooker has come out with a new better flowing insert called MaxFlows.

That said I just ordered a set of mufflers this morning from SweetThunder Part # DL250 which is 2 1/2. Both the MaxFlows and the SweetThunders are $150.

Let me know which way you go and how you like them, I'll do the same.

I've tried several including the spiral baffled and in my opinion the best sounding so far are the new Hookler Max flow, Loud, but not as harsh as a chambered muffler I tried. Stay away from the reverse flows unless you require absolute quite at any cost.

I got the hooker side pipes with the glass packs, the loud ones not the quiet ones and they sucked, if you have any work done on your engine dont use this. The muffler was too restrictive and caused me to have to replace the guidings for the rods. I would just go without mufflers or buy the least restrictive you can find, I ended up hack sawing the mufflers and removing the glass pack and am going to put them back in tomarow. I need some noise resistance but the highest flow possible you know.

I will try and find out what other mufflers my mech. has ordered.

First time I'm hearing about the maxflows. I just got my hooker super comp headers and 4" sidepipes back from Jet-Hot with their ceramic coating.....f'n amazing!!!! And the warantee rocks too. I'm going with the turbo spiral baffles. I've heard a few soundclips and like it. I don't want LOUD, had glass packs on my 74 coupe and they sounded great at chopy idle but at WOT it was too much. I want a nice low growel. Let us know what you chose and how they sound. I'm interested in hearing the maxflows.

I just put these in a 69. They are loud but for this car thats fine. I'm doing an old school street strip car with this one. Small block, tunnel ram,4speed and Hooker side pipes. I drove the car for the first time last night. It sounds great. I used the spiral ones in my last Grand Sport. They where very nice but double the cost. For a stock daliy driver I would say these are to loud.

Went with the new MaxFlows on advice from another forum member who had tried the spiral design. He said he preferred the deeper sound of the MaxFlow, thought the spiral were a bit to high sounding. It may be an age thing; us gray hairs revert back to type every time. For the original sound you gotta love those MaxFlows.

i have the spiral bafles undrilled. at first i thought they were fine. now that im getting used to them i many drill them and make it a tad louder. when i do the heads i may just run open pipes depending on how loud it is with the windows closed.

I've got the maxflows and I like them, don't get them if you want quiet.

Go to google.com and type in Hooker Maxflow and it should give you a bunch of results, some are comments on the mufflers...some are websites you can purchase them. The below fits the size description in this thread....not sure if the price reflects 2 muffler inserts or only one side....check on that before purchasing. Good luck, let us know how they sound...sound clip would be great!

There was a similar topic a few days ago. Hardly any answers. So I ordered the Hooker glass packs. Now I'm reading how they aren't very good. I have 4" sidepipes and a 454 ci. Would no mufflers inside the side pipes be way too much?

Depends if you like your neighbors or not...
I have the same setup, 454 w/ sidepipes. Haven't ran straight pipes but I would imagine it would be very very loud. Ran straight pipes on my 74 with a glass pak and that was pretty loud and that had a stroked 305. Give it a try and judge for yourself...watch out for the sound police
