Default Ready to pull engine

My question is can I pull engine and trans. together with out taking trans. cross member out. My '71 has an auto. trans.

Yes, however, it can be easier one way or the other depending on whether or not you have an Auto or Stick.

For the Auto, I'd pull it as one unit. The bell housing bolts can be a pain. But it can be done either way.

For the stick, I would drop the tranny from underneath leacing the bell housing and clutch on, then pull the motor separately.

There were previous posts regarding this topic, you may want to check through (search) for other opinions on this and how some did theirs.

Why wouldn't you pull the crossmember? It's only 3 bolts on a side. Plus, there's a bracket on the tranny that folds over the crossmember, and you have very little room to maneuver if you don't drop the crossmember.

And yes, you can pull the engine and tranny as one unit. I'd recommend getting an adjustable crank-type load leveler to do it, though. You'll need to change the angle of the assembly several times as you guide it out. Been there, done that, wished I had the load leveler.
