Default What alternator for 1980 ?

Bought the Jegs chrome case to swap in the parts from the alternator I have now, but it looks too small. Has all the connedtions and everything in the right place but the back half of the case is 1/8" or so too shallow. It is for a 63amp alternator which I thought was the correct one for 1980 Corvette with A/C

Maybe mine is not the correct one ?

Default 70 amp option

I have an 1980 and a 70 amp alternator was an option. I have A/C on mine and it came with the 70 amp. I have the original build sheet and it is listed. I dont know what/if there are any size differences between the 63 and 70 amp though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the cases in the late 70's were pretty much the same.

I think I have the 70 amp too. I have not tried to swap the internals, but just eyeballing it, the 70 amp looks bigger.

I wonder if I could get by with a 63amp, I have no A/C anymore but I do have electric fans now, just thinking I could get a 63amp from the junkyard.......

Let us know what you decide 'cause the chrome alternator swap is on my 'round tuit list as well. If you try to swap the chrome with the 70 amp let us know if it will work or not. Maybe try that first then if it doesnt fit go get a 63 amp??
