Default brake pads

My car doesn't seem to stop as fast as it should. My stepdad tells me it's because they're no longer the original asbestos pads, but are now metallic/semi-metallic. Anybody else have this problem? And what kind of pads is everyone using?

This'll get a lot of different replys... But here's my opinion. He's right that they're not asbestos... I can't remember when they changed, but they went to an organic type pad. That's the kind I use. Others will tell you that they've had better luck with, and prefer metallic and semi-metallic pads.

True. Every car that I have owned has recieved a quality set of Raspestos premium semi metalic or metalic pads and does stops better without a doubt. There is no way that the organic pads or asbestos can stop as well. Many people complain that that the metalics are too noisy, but unless the rotors are seriously glazed, this will not be a problem. If there is any noise to speak of, it's rare and intermitent.
