Default Bought new motor, now what?

So I bought a motor. I posted Friday asking if the motor was a good deal or not. Everyone said I should take it and run. Anyways, I offered the seller $1,300 and he accepted.

There was a lot more to the motor than advertised. Here is what I got:
350 bored and machined .030” over
383 Summit stroker kit which included
3.75” stroke cast crank
Summit stage II rods
Keith Black pistons
Chamfered bearings
Melling oil pump
Also,
all gaskets
Holly fuel pump
Shiny timing chain cover
Heavy duty engine stand
Camshaft and hydraulic lifters: type unknown
Misalaneous parts from original setup

Everything is assembled. I just need to slap on heads, intake and a carb, and I should be ready to spin my wheels. This is my first motor. My original plan was to build a motor from scratch, but I came across this, and I couldn’t resist. Since I am a virgin, where should I go from here? Should I start looking for heads? Is there any kind of prepping I should do before I go any further? Also, is there any way to identify the cam without measuring it?

Also, I don’t understand everything in the description from the machine shop. Here is what it says:

Bore V8 – Think I got this one figured out….
CL Block – Clean?
IN CAM B - ? Install cam… B? Balance?
MACH BLK – Machine Block… for clearance maybe?
MINPRESS – Something to do with the cylinders or crank?
--R/R RODS--
Engine Bearings – Installed engine bearings
EXP PLUG – not sure what exp stands for
------

Thanks,
Jim

Well, sounds like you got a pretty good deal, However, reading a lot of posts in here, the KB pistons would scare me, if they are the hypers I would avoid them and install a good set of forged pistons

Bore V8 – Think I got this one figured out….
CL Block – Clearance Block ( for 383 )
IN CAM B - Install cam brearings
MACH BLK – Machine Block
MINPRESS – Pressed on pistons ?
Engine Bearings – Installed engine bearings
EXP PLUG – Expansion plugs, 3 in oil galleys and 1 in back of cam

You need to find out what pistons are in there so you can determine the compression ratio and you also need to know what cam is in there before you go any further.

Basically, I want to learn. This is why I wanted to buy the bare block. Once I get this motor running, I shall start my 400 project. That's if the block is still good. I popped a rod, god know what damage I have done. I popped it at low RPM and turned her off pretty quick, but I don't think it's going to be good. Even if it isn't I will learn a lot just from the tare down. In the mean time, I cant wait to drop this 383 in.

Nothing wrong with KB pistons, most failures are due to improper machining tolerances. Good luck with the build.
