I replaced my drivers side door spring last month. It was a frustrating job.
One thing that helped was using a small 1inch round mirror that I placed at the bottom of the door jamb pointed up. This let me see what was happening under the door hinge, and I could see where I needed to pull the spring into place.

I just did a cleanup on my doors' "armpits". I degreased and cleaned the hinges and painted them. Then I put new springs on both. Its not too bad when you have the hinges out on the workbench. Not easy though when you are working in the armpit. Mine didn't have one hinge at all (Bubba). The bent screwdriver would help quite a bit.
