So I took these almost new ball joints off my a-arms to powder coat the suspension components. Unfortunately I mushroomed the end of one of the lower ones taking it off. I bought a brand new replacement ball joint to replace the mushroomed-thread one.
The problem is that the new lower ball joint has a 1/4" shorter shaft than the other side. Is this going to affect anything. Should I ditch one and get identical ones. I have pics, but I don't have a websight to post to.
I just put 2 new lower ball joints, I semi renuilt the front end of my car and I had to replace the steering knuckles (both sides) and lower ball joints because for some reason, the ball joints wore the holes in the steering knuckle all to hell. This car was undriveable, all over the damn road.
My question is how tight can I get the lower ball joint nuts? I tightened them with a power bar, but after they get so tight, the whole ball joint turns inside, not the nut. Is this the normal tightness?
