ZZ4 Air Cleaner Installation Advice
I have a ZZ4 in my 68. I need to fit an air cleaner. The stock 350/327 air cleaner base will not fit unless I cut a big hole in it to clear my new Holley electric choke housing/Holley fuel regulator. Also, it looks like the stock air cleaner base will interfere with the HEI distributor. And of course, the next clearance problem is the hood. I have a SB hood, but I can install a BB hood if I want.
Can someone who's put a ZZ4 engine in their car (or who has had similar problems) make a suggestion?
I notice I can buy 14 inch air cleaners with bases that have the carb hole offset 1 1/2 inches rearward to avoid the HEI interference. Anyone had any luck with this configuration? Maybe moving the air cleaner forward will make a worse hood fit?
Thanks!!

I have a 'ZZZ' in my '74 convertible with a Holley 750 Double Pumper & electric choke. I am using a centered carb hole "drop base" (1 3/4" drop) base, 2 1/4" K & N element and K & N "X-Stream" lid. This air filter set-up clears my HEI and electric choke just fine, but barely fits under my small block hood.
I will be interested to see what responses you get because I would like to put in a bigger element without sacrificing my small block hood - Can't stand BB hoods that are just used for air filters, but maybe that's the only way???
