A plain bulb will work, but I found that putting the correct "focused" bulb gave a tighter, better beam onto the HVAC controls. The bulb only costs a couple of bucks. I think I got mine from Ecklers.
Got your IM. Glad I could help. Only other thing I changed when I did my center console, was to buy a new center console. Costs about $150, but well worth the money. Looks great, no scratches, good chrome.
