Default Keisler Rear Trans Mount Offset...Help

Richard at tech support has pledged to help, but I'm having problems emailing pictures to him, so I thought I'd post here on the off chance anyone else has had the same issue.

Even with the blocking plate removed, the transmission appears to be about 1/2" too long to work with the supplied crossmember bracket and stock mount. I can notch the bolt holes, but doesn't seem right. Anyone have a similar problem? Solutions???

Jimbo

Yes, I had the same problem, however not as bad as yours seems to be. I talked to Keisler and they sent me a poly transmission mount that was narrower than the stock rubber mount and just barely fit in front of the stairstep and allowed the bolts to be inserted without modification.

Bullshark,
That sounds like a viable solution. A thinner piece would definately work as the bracket holes are slotted. What kind of bellhousing are you using?

I used a McLeod scattershield with the block protector plate. I know what you are thinking, but I measured the dimension from the front of the protector plate to the rear transmission mounting surface on the scattershield and it was identical to the stock 621 aluminum bellhousing. So, that did not explain the tolerance miss match. I gave up trying to figure it out once the problem was solved with the poly mount.

I am going to modify one of our crossmember brackets by slotting the bolt holes and trimming the vertical edge where it butts up against the crossmember. Our poly mount is about 1/2 +- narrower than the standard rubber mount. I would recommend getting this from us and together with the modified mount bracket should give you plenty of clearance even after you install the block plate. Please contact me when you read this so I can get your mailing information.

Bullshark... are you running a big block? To my knowledge, we haven't run into this issue before (unless the customers are fixing it themselves without calling). I am not sure what motor hawgn68 is running either. He purchased our kit from a fellow forum member. My initial thought was the motor was located further back from the stock location or the bell depth was off. After reading your post about the Mcleod scattershield, I am ruling that possibility out.

Rich, Yes I am, It's the GM 502 Ramjet crate motor. I thought about that also, but I had the stock Muncie setup installed prior to purchasing the Tremec from you guy's and it fit with no problem. Now that you mention it, I remember doing a little triming on your mounting bracket just like you discribe. The poly transmission mount you sent me made up for the rest. By the way, I never got the chance to thank you guys for you support back when I was wrestling with this. Some of the crap I read here just isn't deserved.

Bullshark..
It makes me wonder how many other guys are out there running into this and not contacting us. Anyway, I'm glad you got everything worked out on yours. I think my fix will help hawgn68. His seems to be off further than yours was so we are going to trim a little more of the bracket to help accomdate the block plate that he has yet to install.
Your right about most of the posts on here, there is a lot a crap being thrown around. I just laugh at most of it and continue to do what I can to help whomever asks and needs it. Case in pont, hawgn68. He isn't even one of our customers but I am helping him to get his driveline straight so he can go out and enjoy his ride. That will most likely go unnoticed by our naysayers but thats o.k.. I firmly believe most of the members here can read thru the b.s. and know that we are trying our best to satisfy our customers. Sure there are bumps in the road along the way but that is just business. We are growing by leaps and bounds and most importantly, learning as we go. Thanks for the support and please let me know if I can be of help.

I have your modified bracket in my hands now. We have trimmed off about 1/2" from the vertical edge. That together with a poly mount should give you all of the clearance you need. Good luck with the rest of the install and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
