Default Horse power increase with duels

I finished installing 2 1/2 duels with flow master mufflers on my 1979. Does any one have a opinion one how much hp the car picked up. I know it will need a tune up, but will the card need to be rejetted. It is a Q Jet. Thanks Gary B.

Maybe 5 to 10hp if it's stock. I don't think you will feel it, but it will sound like a vette now.

With HEADERS, I switched from 2-1-2 2 1/4" exhaust to true dual 2 1/4" exhaust and my 0-60 time dropped from 6.6 to 6.4 seconds. Switching to dual 2 1/2" exhaust dropped the time again from 6.4 to 6.2. This is with dual cats on a 78 L-48 automatic (700R4 trans, 3.55 gears).

Switching heads and cam took me down to 5.6 seconds to sixty and a good stall converter would probably drop me to the low 5s.

There was a detailed comparison post on this years ago. The increase from the fake duals to true duals was impressive - 40 horsepower? can't remember.

I could definitely FEEL the difference after scrapping the stock exhaust and installing my headers and 2-1/2" dual exhaust.

Yes it does definitely sound like a Corvette now

Duels? How is a gun fight going to give your Vette more hp?

Going from one 2 1/2 pipe to dual 2 1/2 pipes will definitely open it up, but I'd be willing to bet that your major restriction was the 25 year old clogged poorly designed catalytic converter. Flowmasters aren't that great, my catalytic converters flow better than flowmasters. And long tube headers will help just as much as the pipes did.

could be a sword fight???? any way back to the topic 5 -15 hp maybe. however if the cat was bad and it is now tossed aside you may have had a larger gain like 15-25 or so. i like the way flowmasters sounds Jims79 has those and they sound great, and i may just put them on the hot rod
