Ok, I looked at the FAQ's and did a search and didn't come up with the answer I needed. I'm sure this is beating a dead horse here, but does anyone have any tips on how to get to the back stud on the door handle? I can put the nut to the stud by putting it in a open end or box end wrench, but dont' have enough room to turn the wrench to get it started. I'm guessing GM put the handles on before the inner and outer door were bonded together. Also, does it make it any harder to have the glass in the door, or is it just as hard with the window all the way up? Yes, I bought the GM handles, not the imported ones.
I've used this little trick - Remove the 3 slot head bolts that hold the door latch mechanism in place. Leave the linkage pieces attached and it will drop down a little and provide more room to get at the back stud on the handle. I forget whether I had the window up or down, but window removal and reinstallation isn't that bad a job.
Follow BK's advice but I remove the latch and clean it good with braek cleaner then lube it. With the latch out you can reach the 2 nuts on the handle and check the latch for wear. They last a long time. You'll see how it works too so when you reinstall it you can adjust it. Did this yesterday in fact.
It's easy, get a kid, your wife or girlfriend that has a small hand.
I fooled with mine for a couple hours then let my wife do it showing her what I needed done on the one. She had it on in about 15 seconds
