Good morning all, this is my first posting. I was hoping someone could give me some advise on color. I have a 71 454 coupe getting ready for paint. The original color is steel cities gray, and I do like the color but am worried about dropping 8-10k on a show quality paint job and not being completely excited about it. Does it reduce its value if I don't keep original color. The engine and tranny are not original.
First what do you want to do with your vett. Do you want to show it, and do NCRS. If you do you are already screwed as to not having the original engine and trans. I would find a color you like, have it painted and enjoy the car. If it has a good paint job that will usually overcome the negatives of changing the color. You car is not in the desired catagory to future collectors because of the engine and trans. Do what you like and enjoy. I have a numbers matching car, but will replace the motor and trans with a crate zz4. I will save the old parts for whoever gets my car when I am no longer able to drive it. I changed my color from Ontario orange to a 68 Bronze Copper. I could not be happier and will let the next guy worry about the color.

Reason: spelling
I have #'s matching BB '69. Have you ever seen the correct green for 1969??? I fretted over changing anything, worrying about originality. Then I decided #*@$ it! It's my car, I'll put rubber tank tracks on it if I want.
I have now replaced several '69 parts with new technology, but have saved the old parts in case anyone wants to make it back original when I sell it...when I'm 90 years old!!!
Thanks for the responses, I think I'll look around online to see some other colors on c3 vettes. If nothing else excites me I may stay with steel cities.
I know exactly what you mean. My BOSS 302 was originally Grabber Blue. I hated it (it was faded and double ugly), so I painted it '78 Z-28 Camaro blue! Man, did I catch h**l from the blue oval purists for that one!
I have since seen a Grabber Blue BOSS that was done in a modern base/clear that was VERY nice, so that's what I'll go back to. On the vette, I'll go back to the original solid burgundy. Not real common, and I like the way they look.
