Sold my C5 2 weeks ago and get the C3 in a couple days. I'm no mechanic, but I can handle replacing a simple hose. Being a dumba$$....what is it & where do I get it? I'm sure I'll have more ?? in the near future. Bear with me.
That hose is used to draw in air around the exhaust manifold to warm the engine up on start up. Now that there are headers in replace of the manifolds, I think the hose is useless.
That's a heat riser hose. The heat riser valve opens when the car is cold to heat the air coming into the engine. It's an emissions thing. I would bet your local auto parts store would have one. Just take the old hose in so you get the proper diameter hose.
Howdy, and watcha' gettin? Looks like a late C-3 from the engine shots. More of a civilized cruiser than the C-2, but juice that engine and yeehaa! Have fun with it...

Good observation. There are headers on it. Since I don't even have the car yet so I can poke around, I assume that the loose end just hanging there went into the original manifold. With headers, there's nowhere to hook it up. What do I do....if for nothing else....to clean it up and not have a hose hanging around?

thats right we'll turn you into a gearhead in no time flat.. just post your first problem and we'll walk you through the repair procedures on line. we just did this for a forum brother on the west coast. started off with harmonic balancer, evolved to timing chain, then oil pump for good measure, all on line over several days, and hes says it runs better that ever. this place is great
Even though he does have headers...it can still be useful on cold start-ups.
Living here in South Louisiana; I wouldnt have/need one anyway.
But; if he does live where there are very cold days...placing the open end above the header like it is will help...it wont look good, it needs to be "round" *again*...but it will help.
There is actually a little clamp on dealy just for this...its made to clamp on any header tube...universal for: SB, BB, Bow-Tie, Ford or Dodge, tube size, ect...
Its like a $7.00 part...takes a screw-driver and a cool (as in temp., not looks) engine to install.
