Default need some shocks...recommendations?

I need shocks for both front and rear. I won't be racing or anything, but I'd like a good compromise between performance and comfort, with a slight emphasis on performance. I don't know much about shocks, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Rick

If I were you, I'd go with something like a KYB gas shock. They run about $30 and you can buy them from Summit.

I'm sure others will have their own personal preferences.

KYBs are great shocks...But they're a little soft for a more performance edge.

If you can afford a set of Bilsteins, they're worth the money, IMHO. I like the ride on 'em better than KYBs, at least for a performance ride...

KYB is a very good shock for the $$ and are not a slouch for performance either. Bilsteins are a better perf shock but better than 2x $. If your not running and cornering hard a LOT, go with the KYBs

KYB, and if your running a fiberglass spring, Vette Brakes has specially tuned KYBs for that application. I have these and have been happy with them.

My tire suspension shop told me that the KYB's in my 79 were a little too stiff and if I wanted a softer ride to go with Bilsteins. Kind of goes opposite of what forum members are saying here.

Bilsteins..you have these choices:
Comfort
Heavy Duty
Sports
I run the Sports on the 69 which are very firm...replaced the KYB's which are a good shock,as well...going to put the KYB's on the 78 and dump the Delco's....

Sounds like if I go with Bilsteins, I might want HD since they advertise a comfortable ride with good performance. Are the sports really that stiff? Do they make driving the car on a not-that-smooth road really uncomfortable? I have new rubber bushings all around and stock springs and anti-sway bar...would sports be a good choice for that setup? I'm still not ruling out KYB's either...

The Bilstein Sports are not real stiff....very firm,yes...and they are just short of Bilsteins racing shock, which are very stiff...I like a firmer ride and the Sports are perfect for all around driving especially the two lane mountain roads I get on....you will feel more of the road, but that is a plus...I have a Guldstrand 7 leaf, rear sway bar.....

I wouldn't recommend the bilstein HD's, I have them and the ride is too soft, I'm gonna switch to the KYB's, I only have about 1k miles on the Bilsteins but the too-soft ride is driving me nuts.
