The odometer nor trip meter work. The speedometer does.
Before I start to take the dash apart to see whats going on, is there anything in particular that maybe I should order that is a common fix for this problem? Does this sound like I have to send the speedo out for repair?
The drive gear is worn out. It is a common problem. The problem is, steel gears are hard to get, and plastic gears will not last long, so you have the choice of leaving the trip odometer out or finding steel gears somewhere. When I have changed out the gears for plastic gears it tends to change the calibration of the speedometer, so it is probably a job for the professional that has the equipment for calibration.
I have same problem that I have put off dealing with. Car is in full resto mode, so speedo is already out. I have checked into buying a new head/face. Hard to get & expensive for a '69. Do you know of any good Vette speedo repairers?
There are several that advertise in the Corvette world, but you should be able to find a local speedometer repair shop locally. Almost every town of any size has one.
