It all depends if you want a relic or street rod. I don't care for black paint:D

I like chrome and aluminum better.

I used the GM license valve covers and air cleaner made by Proform and bought thru Summit.

Clean, tag and store any original parts that you remove. You may want them later. Chose function first and the looks second. Sometimes you can find both. Mine started here:

and currently is here:

Chrome looks great when done tactfully! IMO, there is such a thing as too much chrome! I think it looks best with the right combo of black and chrome. As mentioned, you should keep the original parts for future use or replacement.

Black mat finished valve covers disipate more heat than crome or polished aluminum.

For the current Vette, I went original. The next one will be lots of go-fast goodies and chrome.

Chrome adds pizzaz! MY car is rapidly approaching the point of no return. But for now I have a garage full of original parts just in case :chevy

ps: Anyone else notice the propensity toward these Edelbrock air cleaners?

I like the engine compartment to be clean. Not just clean from dirt, but cleaned up in the sense that everything looks organized. Chrome looks great, but retains heat. If your car is a daily driver, that might be a problem if you don't like unwanted heat entering the interior. Personally, I like aluminum/chrome combo. Too much chrome detracts from the engine compartment. IMHO.

I favor a mix of aluminum & chrome, too. Billet looks more substantial & less flashy, and chrome details like fittings, springs, & breathers add a nice touch. I do love them edelbrock air cleaners and K&N filters.

Mike69 - Zoop's made the Alt. bracket.
Bseery - So when I decide to put a 502 in my car and I want to sell my engine I should give you a call?
78Vette-SA - I love the look of a stock engine done right and aren't you building a tricked out street rod of some sort that has the aluminum and chrome stuff everywhere?
