I'm tryin to pop off the original manifold, with one bolt left near the 5 cylinder. I can't seem to find any wrench or socket that can get in that little area. Any suggestions to what to use and why this manifold is on so tight? Something I'm missing?
EGR is on the other side. Switch sides, exactly across from the EGR. I know its gonna bust, but the whole thing is locked on, like I haven't taken out a single bolt. Anyone know of an extension that bends? Do they make these?
Thin walled, stuby sockets, it has worked for me in the past.
Or try one of thoughs bendable rachets, you can get them at any parts store.
Good luck!
Peace!
I always keep a drawer of modified tools. One is a 9/16" combination wrench where I ground the heck of it on the box end to make it a thin wall on that side. I originally did it for the cylinder bolts on a Harley shovelhead, but it also works on those small block intake manifold bolts.
I've had my cast iron manifold off more times than I'd care to remember, and always had no problem if I used a short 3/8 drive socket, a universal joint and then a 6" or longer extension. Maybe craftsman sockets and universals are smaller than others, but they just fit in there. Joe
I ended up getting it off with a short craftsman 7/16s socket with a short extension. Now its time to get it bead blasted, anybody know anybody in the Raleigh area?
