I recently purchased a 1974 Vette. I need to change the points. I got some from Ecklers, but when I opened the distributor, I saw that the points in there have the condenser attached. I called Ecklers and they said that these are aftermarket and they don't carry them. Does anyone here have any idea where I can those points? Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures as the car has been shipped to Europe.
The points you described are definitely aftermarket, they are not original GM parts. They are referred to as "unipoints." Corvette Central does carry them.
Get rid of the points and go electronic. There are lots of conversion kits out there, or go with a new dist.. Just keep in mind that you have a mechanical Tach.

Thanks a lot!
I don't know where you are, but the best points (condensor, cap, rotor, and other ignition parts) you can buy are Echlin - available at any NAPA parts store.
Actually the Unipoints WERE a Delco design. You can use either the Unipoints or go back to the separate coil and condensor setup. It all screws into the same holes. Unipoints were designed to just make it easier to change it all.
The best points I have used were Accels. I ran a set well over 7 years and they never moved. I made over 800 HP on the dyno with them, but sadly they started bouncing at 6900 rpm....but remember...they were 7 years old! Typically stock aftermarket ones are very poor quality and move around a lot. The Accels are fantastic!!
The old Delco 112's were a good thing too..but Accels were better.
Wow! Great help on these forums. I didn't think there would be so many people still interested in these cars. Thank you everyone for all the responses.
I had a cheap set of unipoints that I bought from Advance Auto. They fried in about a month and left me stranded. Lars has some suggestions about the best points/condenser, but I dont have those part numbers in front of me. I know they are from NAPA.
I decided to take care of that problem by installing an electronic points replacement kit. My Crane XR-i kit has been performing like a champ the last couple of months and I am very happy with it. I think it was about $70 and you will never have to worry about playing with the points again.
I stand corrected. I was doing some research on another distributor, as another Forum member stated, the uniset points were in fact original equipment on the 1974 model year only. And as well, that was the last year on the Corvette, 1975 did indeed welcome the HEI distributor to the Corvette line.
HEI distributors were introduced on other GM products in 1974, but were not incorporated on the Corvette until 1975.
Year one carries them as well as Corvette Central. I have never used uniset points, I have no comment on their performance.
Sounds like the Crane conversion is doing well for you. I put one in mine and it did fire perfectly....but the rev limiter on mine was a POS. it would move around whereever it wanted to...sometimes 4000 rpm...sometimes 6000 rpm whatever it felt like. I called Crane and they said..."sometimes that happens...we'll get you another if you send it in."
UH,,,,NO......if they know it happens sometimes...then I don't need it in my motor. I would rather run with nothing than have an unreliable one. Maybe they have changed design internally. It became dumpster bait in the Hotel parking lot at Bowling Green during Forum Cruise In and the 7 year old set of Crane points went back in! Instant 7000 rpm!
