Default EGR - Pos or Neg???

Have an '81...the EGR valve on the engine is stamped POS. The service manual states that it should be NEG EGR...???

So which is correct? And what would be the problem of having a POS if a NEG is the correct one?
Would the EGR valve be open all the time or never open?

Probably the best thing is to just put a plate under it and be done with it!!

Thanks for any hints.

It already smogged for the year? If yes, junk it. I personally don't like the idea of exhaust gases being shoved back in to my intake. Clean air and fuel only please.

If it has smogged before with the current one in place, just replace it with the same one.

BTW POS = piece of shiz

NEG = Not Ever Garaunteed
