Default Bleeding brakes and proportioning valve

My brake light on the dash is on. Based on the advice of forum members, I'm going to bleed my brakes. Is the pressure bleeder from Eckler's ok to use? I read somewhere that these aren't too good to use on a Vette. Additionally, how do I reset the proportioning valve so that the switch triggering the brake light goes off? I appreciate the info as I'm going to start bleeding here real soon.

Thanks!

The valve should self center once you have all the leaks out of the system. If it doesn't you could remove the lines on the ends of the valve and use a small drill to recenter the valve.

At least on my '69, there is no porportioning valve, only an imbalance valve to activate the brake warning switch. I have taken one apart and it simply checks that front and rear brake circuit pressures are close to being equal.

The light turns off when equal pressure is applied to both sides. After you bleed the brakes (you might have to pressure bleed), just push on the pedal until the light goes out.

Does it ever go off? Does the pedal feel firm? If the pedal feels firm and the light still won't go off, pull the connector off the proportioning valve switch. If it goes off, then the switch may be stuck. If it doesn't, then the e-brake switch is the problem.

Start the engine and stomp on the brake peddle really hard a few times until the light goes off. This works, I've done it. This is by the book. If everything is repaired and no air in the lines the valve will reset itself to the center and apply equal perssure to front and rear.
