Anyone running this combo? The people that sell the Tremec 5-speeds all want it to use a bearing not a bushing. Because of bearing fit problems with my early 57 283 engine, I would prefer to use a bronze bushing. Anyone doing this? How does it shift and sound?
Bushings have probably logged a trillion trouble-free miles. I think you would be fine with eigher. I have seen a bearing that failed,..my guess is, it was messed up on tranny install,..the cage that holds the needle bearings was a mangled mess.
Update! I just got off the phone with a Tremec engineer and he told me that in my situation of lower HP and rpm and with no serious racing, that the standard bronze bushing would work fine and that I would be unable to tell the difference in it instead of a bearing.
-----Also I have ordered an undersized OD pilot bushing from Year One that they list for Powerglide to stick conversions, PN/ CPG 0689. They measured one for me and it is .589 ID x .1.086 OD. My long struggle with this is over!!!! Thanks everyone!
