Default Question about Carlisle

I had a question for everyone that have been to Carlisle before. This might be a dumb question but I won't know unless I ask.

I have an 80 that had a pinging problem. I took my car to a mechanic and he put the timing back 6 degrees. Now the car doesn't ping but there is ZERO power! I feel like I am in a Honda Civic.. My father also changed the valve cover gaskets and now the car idles at 400 RPM, and it sounds like a steam engine at that RPM.

Now for my question. Do you know if there will be any people there that could check my timing and my idle? Might be a repair tent or something???

Or could you recommend someone that knows what they are doing when it comes to corvettes, that works in the Northern Virginia area?

thanks..

Good question! There is usually a dyno setup, but I dont recall ever seeing a vendor set up a diagnostic area or car repair area. It would be a great idea. On the other hand you can find about 20,000 people that will be glad to help you with your vette! I had some minor problems with my car last year and actually got some great assistance from several people. It was actually a great conversation starter and a good way to meet people! "Excuse me, but do you know anything about these cars? I seem to be having a little problem." In your case, you will need someone with a timing light, but I bet somebody will have one. I will try to remember to bring mine. Just show up at the Hampton Inn Friday evening and you will have about 100 people to help you! MJ

I'd help you, but unfortunately I can't hear pinging (born with a hearing loss). Are you sure you're using the correct heat range spark plug and have them gapped correctly? I'd try replacing the ignition coil as well.

As far as Corvette Mechanics, I would check out Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg. It's a drive, but well worth it. Tony and Keith are good guys and the mechanics really know their stuff.

I generally do all of my own work, but for alignments and Vette specific stuff that I can't do myself I usually go there.

Yeah, I saw that post too. I can't imagine they'll be doing work on cars. I figure they'll just be selling parts and stuff. I'll have to call them and ask.

I need to talk to Tony about my differential anyways.

I'm certain that you won't find anybody to work on your car at Carlisle. There will be many shops there...selling parts, and giving out literature, etc. I've seen the dyno there, but the car owners turn the wrenches on their own cars before/during the dyno runs. Tony's Corvette Shop from Gaithersburg will be there...Row F as I recall, but they will be buying/selling parts. Hope this helps. Chuck

Bluewasp,

Hello neighbor!! First, a warning. There is a 'local' corvette shop. It is called The Corvette Specialists. It is located in Alexandria and from the look of their shop you would think they would be great. They probably have 50 different Corvettes being worked on... On the other hand my buddy and I have have had VERY mixed results using them. So I would be wary...

The place where I got my crate motor installed is in Manassas. It is called "Bryan Dobyns Motorsports". It is really a two person speed shop. They were GREAT and I could not be happier. One side note, they tend to be busy and work out their own speed. I do highly recommend them. Here is their phone number: (703) 393-0606.

Let me know if you have any questions... GOOD LUCK!!

Wow.. you live in Centreville. Where?? I live in Virginia Run.

Anyone: Are you guys going to meet any place on Saturday??? I was thinking of buying a timing light so I can learn how to do it my self. Maybe someone can show me how to adjust the timing and the idle???

Robert

I think I saw your black C3 the other day. I was on 29 making a right onto Machen rd about 3 weeks ago and you where in the left lane and you waved...??? That is the only black C3 that I have ever seen in Centreville.

Robert

There is a white C3 that is parketed in the gate apts. at the Trinity Center. I wonder if he/she is here on the forum.

Yah, I actually think I remember that... I am off of Oday in Woodgate Manor Place. There is are red bigblock vette parked up the street but I have never seen someone that I could walk up and talk to...

As far as Carlisle, I wish I was going up... I can't go on Saturday and would have to go by myself on Sunday. Not sure it is worth it for the last day.

We will have to try and get all of the No. Va guys to go cruising some time.

Hi,

You wouldn't happen to be a friend of Vince's in Germantown Maryland would you? He is my neighbor and his friend always comes over in the Black Vette and I remember Vince while trying to convince me on installing a crate motor mentioned that his friend had.

I am trying to get up to Carlisle but haven't as of yet found anyone to go with. I am not sure about taking my 69 , kinda far... :D
