After browsing thru a ton of of previous posts about the problems with Vette seatbelt/shoulder belts, I decided to just replace all of mine and get a completely new set up. Someone recommended Andover Restraints and I gave them a call. The tech there said they don't make them and don't have any plans to make them for a 74 coupe. I've seen alot of posts about SsnakeOyl rebuilds but after talking to this guy it seems that I don't have the original belt set up anyway so I can't go that way. At least that's my assumption. Someone apparently just put some generic lap belts in and ditched the shoulder belt part altogether.
Someone here also said that rear belts from a late model Camaro will work and this guy said that is NOT true-they aren't built the same and won't work. I'm sure he's trying ot avoid steering me to any of his competition so I don't have much faith in his advice. That seems kinda sily since they don't MAKE them anyway. Regardless.....
I'd like to find somewhere reputable that makes the proper set up for my Vette and just buy the whole rig new. I want to feel like I'm not pinching pennies and risking any possible safety issues when it comes to seat belts but I also don't want to have to fork over a TON of cash.
IS there an answer to this or am I just gonna have to pay the huge bucks for these things?
Any advice on where to turn would be greatly appreciated.....
What you should be looking for is the rear seatbelts from a late model Camaro or Firebird.
Here are the REAR seatbelts from a 1998 firebird/camaro. Compare them to the Corvette seatbelts . The Vette seatbelt is on the top, the Firebird seatbelt is on the bottom.
This is the female connector part. Compare to the original Corvette part. The Vette belt is on the left, and the firebird belt is on the right.
I have a black set from a 75 with good working top & bottom retractors, nice chrome latches/ good webbing/ real nice recievers. One belt was originally black, the other has been dyed from brown to black. They got the date labels still on 'em.Sale includes a complete spare pair of belts with a couple bad bottom retractors that can still be used for parts, $100 + shipping takes all/ wont split up, good deal for a Forum member. Both sets together weigh about 18/20 lbs for shipping purposes........ email for pics. Thanks
also may have some spare rust free mount bolts, gotta look.
if you dont have interest in these the Camaro belts will work for your purposes. search for posts by Redwing Vette
I'd be interested in the belts if patdrums doesn't want them.
I put a set of rear Oldsmobile Aurora set belts in my 72 a couple of months back. The retractor is almost identical to the original belts, (it doesn't have the switch). Nice thing is the spade is the same size as the original, so the original buckle can be used. The salvage yard wanted $15 for the rear set, since not many people want them.
hey my seat belts work!.. ill trade you my body for yours.. oh and dont worry,, you dont have to smog it till febuary
ok?
just let me know when you're ready for the trade..

as you can see im desperate to get my vettes ***** out of the DMV's reach...
I have bought original used seatbelts and restorated them, but I am missing latch that fits to my purpose.
The seatbelts are 3-point, and I am going to put there only one retractor, not two like there used to be.. so the latch should not be sewed to those two belts that comes from retractors but to move freely on the belt.
Where I could buy (internet) this sort of latch I am missing?
