I used the permatex #2 on the threads of the bolts on the intake manifold. The specs say to use 11lbs. of ft. on them. Does the sealant affect the amount of torque that I should use? If so , how much?
no, it shouldn't affect the torque readings by that much. at least at 11 ft/lbs it would be hard to notice. as long as you don't let the loctite dry for too long before torquing, you'll be okay. remember the torquing pattern they recommend... if you do them in the wrong order, it can leave some bolts too tight and others too loose.
I didn't know that there is a certain order for bolt tightening on the intake man. There are 2 in each corner of mine. Do you happen to know what it is?
well, i don't have the GM technical bulletin in front of me, but it goes something like this (imagine you're facing down at the top of the manifold):
7-1----4-6
5-3----2-8
Essentially, it doesn't matter where you start, but you want to alternate across both axes of the manifold, to make sure the pressure is evenly distributed. go once around, then go around once more to check the torque.
If you really want to know GM's official method, call Scoggins Dickey (sdpc2000.com) and ask for the GM technical bulletin included with vortec intake manifold gaskets.
