Seems really cool, it 'learns' your engine noise through your rpm range and then can filter that noise out and listen for knocks at all rpm ranges. It also doubles as a shift light.
Anywho, I saw Twin_Turbo's post about wiring up a knock sensor and was wondering where this little Knocklite could fit in. Would it only require the knock sensor and this gadget, or do you still need all those other components? Here's the other threads that mention Twin_Turbo's knock sensor that show the other components I'm talking about: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...t=knock+sensor http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1368192
Pretty cool. I want one. Looks like a Bosch knock sensor (screwed into one of the 2 block drains) and that gizmo and your set to go! Good thing to have when your running 40 series Flowmasters
GM/Delco has several different knock sensors, each for a specific application and frequency responce, I'd say they have more experience with the proper frequency for a certain engine block than anyone else. I'm going to bet my bucks on the OEM stuff. This gizmo sounds a little too fancy for me..how can it learn the engine noise, if it learns w/ the knock rpesent the knock is "learned" as being normal engine noise???
and GM parts are cheaper also...and plentyful
I agree with your 'learning' suspision. I believe they are assuming that with no load, and at idle, there would be no knocking. A big assumption yes, but probably work for 95% of interested users.
Anybody want to try it and let us know how it goes?
