How can I tighten the outside drivers mirror. Were it mounts to the body is tight, but is loose at the mirror end. Everytime I shut the door I have to adjust it.
You have to pull the door panel, remove the mirror from the door and tighten the screw thats up inside the base. Not a bad time for locktite or that yellow snot weatherstrip adhesive over the top. Not hard, just about 45 minutes work.

I wish I knew
There is no adjustment as far as I know.
I have both drivers and pass side to adjust every 10 minutes
There are three places where the mirror can be "loose".
The first is the actual mirror itself. It sounds as if that is your problem. I have never fixed that one. I think that there have been some postings in the past on this problem. If I remember correctly, some people have placed a drop of loctite on the pivot ball behind the mirror to tighten things up.
The second is where the mirror and chrome part attaches to a plate on the door. This is one that is hard to detect. I have found that some aftermarket mirrors have a tapered screw with a allen head that attaches the mirror part to the door plate. That screw has threads that are too long. When you think that it is tight, the tapered part is not fully locked into the base. You need to grind down and shorten the tip with the threads by a small amount so the taper will lock the mirror to the base.
The third is the plate to the door. I haven't fixed on of those either.

If your mirror is loose because of a loose head, where Jim is talking about, you can try to disassemble it by soaking the mirror in a container of lacquer thinner. IIRC, the mirror head is held in by a large glob of silicone type glue. We did this on my neighbor's 73 and after 24 hours of soaking the glass came right off. Cleaned out the old glue and then staked the ball and the retaining clip to tighten it up. Reglue and you are back in business. Staking it with a sharp center punch should help as a permanent solution. I think I have seen a photo spread of this procedure somewhere. NCRS? Zip? Don't remember.
If you don't want to go that route a great temporary fix that I have used in the past on this board is to use Loctite like Jim suggests. The last time I used Loctite, it was still holding almost a year later. Sit in your seat, adjust to your normal driving position and have a helper move the mirror all the way down until the ball is partially exposed. Drop a generous drop of Loctite on the mirror and adjust it to your liking. Let it sit until the Loctite sets up and then drive. If you mirror is only slightly loose this will work. If your mirror flops down of its own accord without any vibration or car movement, this probably won't work.

I just fixed my drivers mirror with this problem a few days ago. I took a sharp chisel and used the corner of it to booger up the pivot ball. Call me bubba but it fits nice and tight now.
