Default lexan windshield

hi, in my efforts to drop dramatically the weight of my C3 (i've already gone close, if not under, 3.000 lbs) i just got my lexan windshield. question: could i get rid of the windshield supports? and then cut also the t-top connection to the rear? (i do not use the tops anyway...) or do they give strength to the upper area? thanks/Giu

Don't cut the center out unless you have a full gage, if you do
your car will become more like a rattly ole convertible.

You can get lexan shields w/ a scratch resistant coating on top of it. However, I'm pretty sure that for the windshield lexan is not allowed (in eruope), the other windows are no problem. The front windshield must have a DOT approvement mark etched in it...maybe the italian inspectors aren't as stringent...dunno..but check before buying.

I wonder what kind of weight savings the lexan windshield and lexan side windows will give you?

What's the weight of the regular windshield?

Found a good deal on this site:

actually, it's the percy's speedglass, maybe it's not lexan, for sure they claim it's the best for lightweight windshields, is that true? anyway the item is here already...

Default Hey Panic !!

Since you are going to run a lexan (plastic) windshield I thought you should know about this stuff.

Novus Polish
http://www.novuspolish.com/

I use it on the lexan windshield for my Harley and it is very effective.

Do not use conventional window cleaner on any plastic windshield as it will yellow because of the ammonia in the window cleaner. This applies to both acrylic and lexan.

I called Percy a while back and they advised me not to get a windshield or side windows. They said the back window would be fine and I believe that they are about 60%+ lighter than glass.

Did you get any reasons why not ?? It seems odd that a vender would tell you not to buy his product.

Biz, care to let us know? -- I was curious, also.

Are you also still "fistfighting to get in line for a Blue Devil"?

Because you said you are dying for one, but also said: "Lets be happy with the Z06 and forget about the SS" -- so you are still shopping for a new Z06? If so, I guess that is going to cut into your future trolling time available on the C3 area, such as: " tell that to the C6 crowd. I tried and got lambasted to ruins." on the thread "C6 owners, no class", or "those arrogant Z owners say things like, "it is not even close""

Of course, you also say you are going to be 'first in line' to buy those chrome sidepipe covers for your C3 -- you know, the one you describe: "My corvette has just been recently finished as far as mechanicals go...Keisler 5 speed...go Demon and see for yourself how much crisper your vette runs...my big block is lighter than most small blocks. It has never overheated...3.70 rear...with the steeroids in, the car feels much better......"

I for one would love to see some photos of your awesome ride if you would take time to post them for us to oogle. There is a photo gallery here at CF, or even easier, you can just use:
http://tinypic.com/

to post a few photos -- it's free, easy, no log-in or sign-up required at all, either to upload or to download. I would just love to lay the old eyeballs on your cool ride!

"To be honest, I'm not crazy about it but it is better than what I have." -- Biz
