When using the 3.875 inch stroke crank what rods are used 5.7 or 6"? I am very interested in this combo as i can get a new crank for $1200 aus and some slightly used aluminium racing rods from a fellow drag racer. I really want a BB but i dont want the extra weight. The 400 stroker sounds like a tourque demon!
PS Just found a 4" stroke crank. WHich one is used in the 396 stroker? Can someone work out the Ci of a 4" stroke and standard bore?
the formula for cubic inches is: bore x bore x stroke x .7854 x 8 (number of cylinders.) or..... 4.125x4.125x4.000x.7854x8=427.6503 cubes
427 small block... how bout a 427/435? :yesnod:
I'd just make sure you have plenty if cylinder head and make sure that if you go with a 6'' rod that you can get a piston for it... if you want under 11:1
compression the pistons will have quite a dish and the 6'' rods might not work because the rings must be moved down the piston and the pin would be so high. I 'm building a street 434 right now and am using a 5.850 rod .
I think that will be your choice. just my opinion...
mean motors though... see ya ! steve keech

this info is based on the 400 block... 4.125 bore
You can run any crank or rod combo you want you kust have to buy the right pistons. I just use JE pistons and you just order by crank and rod size.
The 3.875 is the normal limit of a 350 block with big rods and bolts. Because you have to grind away the pan rails for clearance and buy a special oil pan. You get very close to the water jacket and in a worst case if you make it through you just have to epoxy fill the bottom of the block.
