Default Build date code on trim plate

I just bought a 1969 Corvette and noticed it has a date code on the trim plate inside the door of "004". Can someone tell me what date that is? I think it's the fourth day but can't determine what month it would be. Am I missing something here?

I couldn't be happier with the car. Of course I haven't had a chance to really enjoy it yet because I still have to get it insured and registered. In the meantime I am in the process of learning as much as I can about the car and I want to recover the seats and install new carpet.

It may sound stupid but I have found myself opening the door to the garage and just staring at it in disbelief that it's really mine.

Is it an 'O'? Could it be a 'C'? 'A' s for August, 'B' is for September, etc.
For my '73 The 'L' stands for July.

Couldn't be an "O", as "O" is the 15th letter of the alphabet, and there are only 12 months.

C maybe, G maybe? Look again. Those letters correspond to the month of production.

Sometimes A is August, sometimes A is September, depending on when they started to build.

What is your VIN number? Chuck

Probably an O. '69 production ran long. 'O' should indicate October, 1969. Production continued through December, 1969.

69 production ran more than 12 months. "O" just happens to represent October.

Yep, you're right.

O is October. I keep forgetting that they built 69's from August of 68 through December of 69.

So, the letters run from A, August 68 through Q, December 69.

Not trying to hijack here, but why didn't '70 production start at the normal late August/early September time?

There was a strike at GM that was, I believe to be the reason for the extended production run of 69 vettes.

Doesn't sound stupid to me.... I pull mine out of the garage often, and just look at it... I've had it for over a year, and still can't believe it's mine. Probably because I had to wait 30+ years to finally own one!

Congrats on the purchase!!!

BODY PAINT AND TRIM PLATE

The body paint and trim plate stamped with the trim, paint and time built codes is attached to the left door hinge pillar. The time built code contains an alpha representing the month followed by two numerics representing the day of the month. A is used for the first month, B for the second, etc.

A - August 1968
B - September
C - October
D - November
E - December
F - January 1969
G - February
H - March
I - April
J - May
K - June
L - July
M - August
N - September
O - October
P - November
Q - December

Your Trim Plate built code 'O04' indicates your Corvette was built on the 4th day of October 1969.

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't aware of the strike or extended build time for the '69 "Vettes.
